About Catie Faryl

The world is in constant motion. We grasp at the patterns we perceive in nature and struggle with belief systems to help us make sense of our experiences. Art is my way of understanding our existence.

The pictures I make don't give any answers. Sometimes they raise questions and present mysteries to the viewer. When I'm making a painting it is like writing a poem. It is my way of conveying a feeling, an idea or observation. It is how I connect myself to the world and acknowledge the human condition and the times in which we live. I show the pain, wonder, joy and hope I experience in life. It is a recording of the the way things seem to me. Since I have discovered no universal truths, I continue to ask the eternal questions.

I make art for plumbers and waitresses and CEOs, for dreamers and doers and for people who live on the edge and for people who work hard because they care about someone or something. I create for people who are still a little afraid of the dark and people who take foolish risks, for people who garden and diet, pick up dry cleaning and lose their keys, and their tempers. For people who make mistakes and sometimes make amends and who are sad, but still dance, alone or with a partner. For people who feel tragically flawed and worry about the environment, but still find beauty and humor and love and things in the world worth doing.

We live in times that try the soul ---between a past so beautiful and corrupt and a future beguiling and misbegotten. The world is in constant motion. Art is my way of trying to understand.
